Building My Hornet Silksong Cosplay With Pattern – Helmet, Needle, and Hollow Knight With Patterns
Share
I’ve always loved the atmosphere and character design in Hollow Knight, and when Silksong was announced, I knew right away which character I wanted to bring to life: Hornet. She’s elegant, fast, and her design just screams cosplay potential. In this post, I want to share my journey of making the Hornet helmet and her iconic needle weapon, plus a link to the full tutorial video on YouTube so you can try it out yourself.
Why Hornet from Hollow Knight: Silksong?
Hornet’s design is simple at first glance, but when you look closer, the details are what make her stand out. The tall, sharp helmet, the flowing cloak, and of course, the long needle weapon make her a really striking cosplay. For me, part of the fun is figuring out how to turn those game visuals into something you can actually wear.
Building the Hornet Helmet
The helmet was the trickiest part, because it needs to be tall and smooth while still being light enough to wear. I started by working with EVA foam and one of my cosplay patterns that I designed to get the shape right. Once it was glued and sanded, I added some layers of paint to give it that crisp white finish, just like in the game.
It took a bit of trial and error to get the proportions right (so it doesn’t look too big or too small), but once it was done, it really felt like Hornet was coming to life.
Making Hornet’s Needle Weapon
The needle is one of the most iconic props from Hollow Knight and Silksong. For mine, I followed a similar process: working with a foam template, making sure it’s long, sleek, and sturdy enough to carry around at a convention. I also made sure it was lightweight so I could pose without getting tired.

The Finished Cosplay
Once everything came together—the helmet, the needle, and the red cloak, i made the cloak with a fabric that i have in my workshop, so it's not perfect — but it felt incredible to wear. And I already plan to remake the cloak again. Hollow Knight fans immediately recognize Hornet, and it’s such a fun cosplay to bring to events or photo shoots.
I’ll drop some pictures of the finished cosplay below so you can see how it turned out.
Want to Try Making Your Own Hornet Cosplay? Here's The Pattern Link
If you’re planning a Hollow Knight cosplay or want to get ready for Silksong, starting with patterns can save you a ton of time. The patterns make it easier to cut and assemble the helmet and weapon without guessing the shapes.
Whether you’re new to cosplay or already have a few builds under your belt, Hornet is a super rewarding project that really stands out.
Final Thoughts
Making this Hornet Silksong cosplay was both a challenge and a lot of fun. Between the helmet, the needle, and the cloak, it really feels like stepping into Hollow Knight’s world. I hope this inspires you to try making your own version—and don’t forget to check out the video tutorial to see the full build process.
